Fatigue tests
DYNA-MESS testing machines can be used for fatigue tests for many kinds of of materials and components. As an example, the fatigue tests are used to determine the SN curve of a material.
Cost-efficient servo-pneumatic
For many applications DYNA-MESS fatigue testing machines are equipped with a servo-pneumatic actuator by reducing significantly the cost compared to a servo-hydraulic testing machine.
Fatigue behavior
To determine its fatigue behavior, the specimen is exposed to a force and displacement controlled load - if necessary, a static pre-load can be applied on the specimen. The load applied on the specimen can be tension, compression or a combination of those two types of loads. The experiments can be performed with different waveforms or as a multi-stage (block) experiment.

- Triangle

Dynamics properties
With DYNA-MESS testing software it is possible to measure different dynamic characteristics of a material as:
- Dynamic stiffness
- Loss angle
- Strength loss
- ...
The corresponding properties are calculated and presented on a graph. Thus, it is possible to have a statement about the change of the specimen's properties during the test.
Tolerances can be defined by the user in order to stop the test if the testing parameters are not respected due to an abnormal behavior of the test part.
Continuous data recording
By continuously recording data throughout the test period, it is possible to have a statement not only about the type of damages or change in the test parameters but also the evolution of the damages or parameters while performing a test. All data is automatically recorded for further documentation.

Materials testing
DYNA-MESS offers testing machines to perform static and dynamic tests for a wide range of materials.
Standards tests
In opposition to assemblies and components testing, materials testing is usually performed in accordance to a standard. One of the most common example is the EN 10002 tensile test.
Quasi-static tests
In quasi-static tests - often called "static tests" - the load is applied very slowly in a way that the dynamic effects can be neglected. The following can be measured:
- Tensile strength
- Yield point
- Elasticity modulus (Young's modulus)
- Breaking point
- Rigidity
- ...
Dynamic test and service life analysis
Often called fatigue tests, the dynamic tests consist of a load applied at a defined frequency. Dynamic tests are used to investigate specifics values or for fatigue tests. Typical dynamics properties are:
- S-N curve
- Service life
- Hysteresis curve
- Dynamic stiffness
- Loss angle
- Strength loss
- ...
Individual and fatigue tests
During these tests, the properties of a material are investigated under a long-term test to characterize the fatigue behavior. By continuously recording the data throughout the experiment, it is possible to have a statement not only about the type of damages or a change in the test paramters but also the evolution of the damages or parameters while performing the test. All data are automatically recorded by DYNA-MESS software for further analysis.
Cost-efficient servo-pneumatic and high-performance servo-hydraulic
Depending of the test requirements (load, frequency, stroke), DYNA-MESS testing machines are designed with a servo-pneumatic or servo-hydraulic drive. The cost-efficient servo-pneumatic system are used for tests with a frequency up to 35Hz. For higher frequency and load, servo-hydraulic drive are used.
Single and multiaxial loads
Both uniaxial and multiaxial stresses can be applied. For example, it is possible to combine two linear actuators to generate torsion and tension stresses on a part.
Materials characterization
DYNA-MESS testing machines can be used for static and dynamic tests of many kinds of materials.
Static properties
Some examples of static properties:
- Breaking strength
- Tensile strength
- Yield point
- Elasticity modulus (Young's modulus)
- Hysteresis
- Fracture toughness
- ....
During the loading of a specimen to a certain load or deformation, the values are continuously recorded to draw a force/displacement diagram.
DYNA-MESS software automatically calculates the static properties and generates a report. For example the stiffness under different loads or displacements can be determined.
Tolerances can be defined by the user in order to stop the test if the testing parameters are not respected due to an abnormal behavior of the material to be tested.
Dynamic properties
Here are some examples of dynamic properties
- S-N curve
- Service life
- Dynamic stiffness
- Loss angle
- Strength loss
- ...
During a dynamic test, the specimen is subjected to a cyclic load that can be defined by the following parameters:
- Mid-load and -position
- Amplitude
- Frequency
- Waveform
- Oscillation position
The force and displacement values are used to calculate the dynamic properties. In addition to the hysteresis curve, different calculation methods are available.
The dynamic tests can be used as a single test (determination of the parameters at an operating point), a sweep test (parameters as a function of frequency and load) or as an endurance test (parameters as a function of the number of cycles and load).
